Conclusion

By-products in general are high in fiber, but the fiber is highly digested. These by-products are excellent feed sources for ruminants. They vary in content of energy, protein, and phosphorus and can be included in ruminant diets to supply the needed nutrients. Because the byproducts are primarily produced in the production of further-processed human foods, it is anticipated that quantities of products available will increase in the future. Production of fuel ethanol will also increase by-product availability. Ruminants provide a means of maximizing utilization of most of these by-products.
