Advances in the development and application of assisted reproductive technologies have accelerated over the past decade. Although the availability and cost-effectiveness of some of these new technologies still remain in question, there is little doubt about their potential impact on livestock production in the future. Utilization of these emerging technologies will require more intensive management by the cattle producer. These new technologies, if economically practical, will provide producers with the opportunity to change the genetic potential of cattle at a faster rate than is possible by the conventional methods presently in use.
