Domestic animals have played an integral role in the formation of modern human society. Before animal domestication, humans led a relatively nomadic existence in their search for food, absent the social and political organizations that govern current community affairs. Relief from the relentless search for food and the increased efficiency with which it was produced in stable settlements allowed for development of the trades, cultural arts, medical advances, and the various disciplines of science that now so enrich our lives.
