The fat-soluble vitamins (i.e., A, D, E, and K) are essential in the diets of domestic animals for maintenance, growth, tissue development, and reproduction, and are not involved in energy or amino acid metabolism as are the water-soluble vitamins. Meeting tissue requirements is essential, but excess supplementation could lead to toxicity situations, particularly for vitamins A and D, while none have yet been ascribed to vitamins E and K. Vitamins A, D, and K will be discussed herein, with vitamin E in a separate article.
