The U.S. pork industry is an ever-changing entity consisting of many diverse constituents (producers, packers, wholesalers, retailers), yet it remains an enterprise driven by the single underlying principle of consumer demand. Given the hectic lifestyle of many of today's consumers, pork must be not only wholesome and safe, but also convenient, flavorful, and diverse. Therefore, animal and/or product inspection, further processing, and strategic marketing are each fundamental components of the pork industry and vital to its continued success.
