MMS appears to have higher cure rates than other treatment modalities. Because it utilises sequential extirpation of tissue, it is more sparing of adjacent tissue. This provides a cosmetic advantage for tumours located in functionally critical areas. The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting and most patients tolerate it.29 The technique avoids the delay associated with formalin-processed tissues and the need for multiple surgical procedures. For low-risk small-diameter SCC (minimally invasive or in a low-risk site), other treatment modalities should be considered as there is probably little to be gained in efficacy and much to lost in terms of cost and time.
