One randomised controlled study (RCT) compared the efficacy of prednisolone,
30 mg/day, and placebo administered for 10 days in 38 patients.4 After follow up for 2 years, results could be evaluated in 28 patients. The median time for LP to clear was 18 weeks in the prednisolone group and 29 weeks in the placebo group (P = 0^02); LP did not clear after 2 years in 3 of 14 patients in the placebo group but in none of the corticosteroid group. Five patients in the corticosteroid group relapsed after treatment withdrawal.
We found no clinical trial of topical corticosteroids in cutaneous LP.
