A series 30 of patients (26 female, 4 male) with clinically typical perioral dermatitis has been reported.14 Patients were asked to apply topical tetracycline twice daily to all affected areas after gently washing the face. No other treatment was allowed. Twenty-four patients (80%) experienced complete clearing of their condition in 5-28 days; three patients (10%) were at least 50% clear but not totally clear within 28 days, and three (10%) patients discontinued the medication. All patients whose condition cleared were able to maintain clearing with the topical product used on an as-needed basis.
