One double-blind placebo-controlled crossover study in 19 patients compared ketoconazole, 200 mg/day for 4 weeks, with placebo. Seventy per cent of subjects showed a significantly greater improvement, particularly on the scalp, with ketoconazole compared with 10% of subjects receiving placebo (P<0-01).43
In one placebo-controlled trial (n = 60), oral terbinafine 250 mg once daily for 4 weeks significantly reduced scores (P<0-0001) compared with baseline and control groups.44
