Sarcoidosis has a variable course, with both limited/spontaneously resolving and chronic/ progressive forms of the disease. Most patients with sarcoidosis do well. Up to 60% of cases spontaneously resolve, and only about 5% of patients with sarcoidosis will eventually die of their disease.11,12 In the US, patients are most likely to die of pulmonary complications, such as pneumonia, pulmonary fibrosis progressing to cor pulmonale, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.13
