The Post Reproductive Life Span

Draper (2002, personal communication) has found that, among the traditional !Kung, those adult women who had a surviving mother also had more surviving children. Similarly Hawkes et al. (1989,1997) have noted that, among the Hadza, the presence of grandmothers contributes to the reproductive success of their daughters by freeing them from the rigors of strenuous subsistence activities.
