Physical examination evidence of severe neurologic compromise that correlates with the medical history may indicate a need for immediate consultation. The examination may further modify suspicions of tumor, infection, or significant trauma.15 If it does, then the physical examination must include abdominal, vascular, neurologic, and lower extremity evaluation. Abdominal visceral palpation and auscultation over the aorta and renal arteries, as well as an assessment of peripheral pulses, color, and temperature, should be routine.
