Airborne Precautions

In addition to standard precautions, airborne precautions are utilized for patients known to be or suspected of being infected with microorganisms transmitted by airborne droplet nuclei. Airborne precautions also apply to small particle residue (5 pm or smaller) of evaporated droplets containing microorganisms that remain suspended in the air and can be dispersed widely by air currents over a long distance. Examples of infectious agents spread by this method are found in Iab]eJJ8-1.
