The syndrome of cardiogenic shock results from an impairment of the heart's pumping action to the degree that there is insufficient blood flow to the tissues to meet resting metabolic demands. Cardiogenic shock is usually caused by contractile failure of the myocardium, although other processes may impair cardiac output enough to produce shock (T.able,,29.-1). Cardiogenic shock is a true emergency requiring rapid recognition and aggressive interventions to avert the extremely high mortality. 1-2,,3.,4,5 and 6
