Discharge Instructions

All children released to go home from the emergency department with a diagnosis of pneumonia should receive specific advice on the dosage and scheduling of medications and the signs of worsening respiratory distress. Children who become unable to ingest adequate amounts of fluid or prescribed antibiotics should be instructed to return for further care. All children discharged with the diagnosis of pneumonia should have follow-up scheduled with the primary care provider within 24 to 48 h.
