Patients who develop altered mental status, bradycardia, conduction delays, or hypotension should be managed in the intensive care unit. Overdose patients who present initially without symptoms can be safely discharged to psychiatric care after an observation period of 8 to 10 h provided they remain asymptomatic with normal vital signs and electrocardiogram, receive gastrointestinal decontamination, and are not expected to develop delayed complications from sustained-release formulation or coingested drugs.
