A. EARLY POSTPARTUM [1ST 48 H] (Note three drug therapy)

2. Ticarcillin/clavulanic acid (Timentin) 3.1 g IV q6h [B]

3. Imipenem (Primaxin) 500-1000 mg IV q6h [c]

4. Ampicillin/sulbactam (Unasyn) 3.0 g IV q6h [B]

5. Piperacillin/tazobactam (Zosyn) 3.375 g IV q6h [B] PLUS

1. Doxycycline (Vibramycin) 100 mg IV or PO q12h [D]

2. Clindamycin (Cleocin) 450-900 mg IV q8h [B] PLUS

1. Gentamicin (Garamycin) 2 mg/kg IV loading dose, then 1.7 mg/kg IV q8h (monitor serum levels) [D]

Organisms: Prevotella bivia and other Bacteroides sp., group B streptococci, Enterococci, E. coli, Chlamydia trachomatis, Gardnerella vaginalis

B. LATE POSTPARTUM (48 H TO 6 WEEKS)

Doxycycline (Vibramycin) 100 mg PO or IV bid (discontinue nursing) [D] Course: 14 days

Organisms: C. trachomatis, M. hominis Epididymitis and Orchitis

A. YOUNGER PATIENTS (LESS THAN 35 YEARS OF AGE)

Treat for gonorrhea and chlamydia— See SexuaJlyT^[aߧmiit§äDDl§e§§§s.

B. OLDER PATIENTS (GREATER THAN 35 YEARS OF AGE)

1. Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) 500 mg PO bid [C]

2. TMP/SMX DS (Bactrim DS, Septra DS) 1 tablet PO bid [C; D in 3rd trimester]

Course: 10-14 days Organisms: E. coli, Proteus sp.
