The utility of cardiac markers (T,a.b.!§ 4.7.-.7) depends upon their ability to detect and risk-stratify patients with acute coronary syndromes. Markers vary in terms of their molecular weight, cellular localization, solubility, plasma concentration, clearance, and ability to be accurately detected in serum with rapid immunochemical techniques (see Chap.45).
