Note: Usual definition of cure: negative serology urea breath test 1-3 months or longer after treatment. Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis (SBP)

1. Cefotaxime 2 g IV q8h (q4h if life-threatening) [B]

2. Ticarcillin/clavulanic acid (Timentin) 3.1 g IV q6h [B]

3. Piperacillin/tazobactam (Zosyn) 3.375 g IV q6h [B]

4. Ampicillin/sulbactam (Unasyn) 3 g IV q6h [B]

Organisms: Enterobacteriaceae, S. pneumoniae, enterococci, anaerobes
