A baseline serum creatinine level should be determined prior to contrast injection for patients with suspected renal dysfunction or considered at increased risk for contrast-induced nephrotoxicity (T§ble...,29.4-5).4 Determination of the serum creatinine level is not necessary in patients without suspected renal dysfunction. Furthermore, in cases of suspected renal dysfunction, clinical judgment may determine that an urgently needed contrast-enhanced examination should not be delayed by determination of the serum creatinine level.
