Note: Consider initiating outpatient therapy with a single dose of IV medication listed under inpatient therapy.

A. CAT (OUTPATIENT THERAPY) Notes:

1. Cat bites have a high infection rate (30-50%) and frequently require IV antibiotic therapy. Close follow-up is mandatory.

2. Consider x-ray to rule out broken cat tooth.

1. Amoxicillin/clavulanate (Augmentin) 500/125 mg PO tid OR 875/125 mg PO bid [B] OR

2. Cefuroxime axetil (Ceftin) 500 mg PO bid [B]
