When possible, all foreign bodies and appliances should be removed. Initially recommended antibiotics are amoxicillin/clavulanate or ampicillin/sulbactam. Alternatives include vancomycin plus aztreonam.2 If cellulitis is secondary to underlying abscess or osteomyelitis, diagnostic evaluation and treatment for the underlying source is necessary.
