Basal Body Temperature Bbt Test

Your doctor may request that you keep a basal body temperature (BBT) chart for a few months. The purpose of the BBT test is to determine whether you are ovulating. It's based on the knowledge that after you ovulate, progesterone hormone levels increase within your bloodstream. This increasing progesterone level causes your temperature to rise, at least a little bit.

This is a test that you will do in the privacy of your home. You'll need to buy a special BBT thermometer and chart paper. Your doctor will explain the details of how the test should be performed. After a few months, you'll bring your temperature charts with you to your doctor and together will discuss what they mean. See Chapter 5 for more details.
