• Hormones are produced by the body to transmit instruction from one area to another. The same hormones are produced in both men and women, but in varying amounts.

• Hormone levels are monitored and controlled by areas of the brain called the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland.

• The gonadotropin hormones are FSH and LH. In men, FSH stimulates sperm production and LH stimulates the testicles to release testosterone. In women, they play a critical role in the monthly menstrual cycle and ovulation.
