Pituitary Gland Tumors

The pituitary gland is considered your body's master gland because it is responsible for orchestrating all of the hormones in your body. So it stands to reason that a tumor within the pituitary gland may be associated with abnormal hormone production. For example, pituitary tumors often cause elevated levels of prolactin hormone. In addition, pituitary gland tumors can sometimes cause other hormonal imbalances, such as interrupting the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). FSH and LH are both hormones that are made by the pituitary gland and help with the growth and development of your eggs and your ovulation process. This shift of these hormones may negatively impact your ovulation and fertility.
