Basic Chemical Kinetics General Considerations

The kinetics of chemical reactions are usually studied within a deterministic framework; that is, the considerations of reacting chemical species are assumed to be single-valued, continuous functions of time and position, uniquely determined by their initial values and a complete knowledge of the temperature, pressure, and so on throughout the system. The rate of homogeneous simple reaction (one corresponding to the actual molecular event) is assumed to follow the law of mass action (ie, to be proportional to the product of the concentrations of the reacting species).
