Specification Description

The requirements for the specification of a patent are contained in 35 USC ยง112 and especially in 1 1 thereof. In particular, the requirements of the descriptive portion of the specification include the following:

1. A written description of the invention.

2. A written description of the manner and process of making and using the invention in such full, clear, concise, and exact terms as to enable any person skilled in the art to which it pertains or with which it is most nearly connected, to make and use the invention; a requirement usually referred to as the enablement requirement.

3. The best mode contemplated by the inventor of carrying out the invention; a requirement usually referred to as the best mode requirement.

This descriptive material is the consideration given by the inventor as the inventor's part of the bargain represented by the patent contract.
