Schilders Disease

In 1912, the entity Schilder's disease was introduced into the literature as a fulminant disease of children with diffusely affected cerebral white matter. Much confusion has surrounded the status of this condition, but later analyses have securely identified three different diseases falling under this eponym: adreno-leukodystrophy, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, and true Schilder's disease. The disorder is best considered a rare variant of MS usually affecting children and causing severe mental deterioration, progressive disability, and often death as a result of marked cerebral demyelination.
