Cadherins

Cadherins have been implicated in Ca2+-dependent homotypic aggregation of nonlymphoid cells and play an important structural role in cell-cell junctions. Although there are several different cadherins, to date only E-cadherin has been implicated in regulating immunological function. Intraepithelial lymphocytes express the aK(37-integrin, which binds to E-cadherin expressed on epithelial cells. This adhesive interaction has been proposed to play a role in retaining «Ep7-expressing T cells at specific tissue sites in vivo.
