An increasing body of evidence suggests that LTB4 may be an important modulator of many immune cell functions, either as an internal messenger within some cells, or as an external signal, linking inflammatory cells to lymphocytes. LTB4 and, to some extent, other LTs, are known protagonists of numerous inflammatory processes. They can also mediate varied and powerful effects on many cells involved in immunological reactions.
