TCR genes in malignancies

TCR and BCR genes provide useful tools for the evaluation of tissues from patients with lymphopro-liferative disorders. Rearrangements of the TCR and BCR genes establish clonality of malignant cells in leukemia or lymphoma patients at the time of presentation or relapse, and are useful for establishing T or

B cell lineage, respectively. Chromosomal translocations involving the TCR genes are often found in T cell tumors. Using the genes of the TCR, several putative proto-oncogenes that may play a role in malignant transformation of T cells have been identified.
