LDL quartiles the relative risks of manifesting non-fatal or fatal CHD were 2.8 and 5.0, respectively, if one or other parent had developed CHD before the age of 60.7 The effect of family history is largely independent of other major risk factors, implying the existence of a separate mechanism.
