Considerable progress has been made in understanding C. parvum (C. hominis) since it was recognized as a serious pathogen of humans. Major technological advances have helped our understanding of this enigmatic pathogen and will undoubtedly continue to provide new insights in our understanding of the biology of this important parasite of humans and animals. With continued research, the complete in vitro culture systems, trans-fection systems, and cryopreservation methods will be developed, which will further enhance our understanding of Cryptosporidium and cryptosporidiosis.
