Although it is technically more involved than other gene-screening techniques such as SSCP, HA, or CSGE, and can include the use of toxic chemicals, it is ideally suited to screening relatively large fragments in excess of 1.5 kb and will accurately pinpoint the position of the sequence change. To date, apart from direct nucleotide sequencing, FCCM remains the fastest, most accurate, and sensitive fluorescent mutation screening technique available, and these high standards will only improve in the future with the optimization of fluorescent and solidphase technologies.
