From our experience in the study of CFTR nuclear gene mutations, the TTGE method has a sensitivity of detecting approximately 92% of all mutations. Its specificity is estimated to be about 99%, with a false negative rate of about 1%, without any false positives.

For mitochondrial genes, 109 samples with 15 different previously identified mutations in 6 different genes were analyzed. All the mutations and status of heteroplasmy/ homoplasmy were correctly identified.[17] In the screening of unknown mtDNA mutations, some TTGE-positive DNA fragments did not show mutations upon direct DNA sequencing.
