Forensic methods of extracting DNA from a wide variety of different types of biological material (feces, hair, nails or claws, bones, teeth, dried skins, formalin-fixed, ethanol preserved specimens) and pathological materials (blood smears, chromosomal spreads, and paraffin-embedded tissues) have provided new sources of DNA for PCR amplification from stored materials. Storage methods for most of these materials have not been evaluated.
