Woodwardia spinulosa (with small spines), Mexican chain fern, is a large evergreen from the moist montane regions of Mexico and central America. it is similar in structure to W. fimbriata and can be separated by its lax rather than upright growth plus the presence of fringed scales on areas of the lower frond surfaces as well as basal pinnae that may overlap the rachis. it is cultivated in Zones 9 and 10.
