Contraindications to Endoscopy

► Perforation, peritonitis, suspected mediastinitis

► Necrosis in the hypopharynx, necrotizing epiglottitis

► Respiratory failure, shock

Studies Prior to Endoscopy

► Standing chest radiograph: pleural effusion?

► Plain abdominal radiograph, standing and LLD
