Thoracic Diverticulum

Causes. Thoracic diverticula probably have diverse causes. A congenital anomaly with a persistent tissue bridge between the esophagus and trachea may have causal significance, as well as motility disorders and inflammatory wall changes (e.g., tuberculosis) in this region (Fig. 3.48b).

Management. Thoracic diverticula are usually asymptomatic. There is generally no need for treatment.
